User Interface Elements
Control and display elements (user interface elements) are the generic building blocks of which the components (described in the interaction patterns) are composed of. For example, an interaction pattern that provides a selection list requires buttons for each option in the selection list.
Besides various types of buttons the control and display elements include (among others) fields for text input and text output and simple display elements such as labels or progress bars.
In addition, the control and display elements also include generic interaction mechanisms that are repeated in different interaction patterns. E.g. acoustic interaction (as the voice output and voice input of the options which are currently available) or the definition of the mechanics of the basic control mechanisms, such as the cursor navigation.
